 Budget Support
The Paris Declaration on aid effectiveness calls donors to channel their aid to directly support the budget of developing countries instead of spreading their donation through a variety of pet projects, frequently conditioned to buying products or hiring consultants from the donor country.
The European Union decision to programme 50% of its aid for 2007-2013 through general or sector budget support is under threat from variations in the approval requirements for this type of aid, which in some cases represent a new bottleneck.
