The 2004 Social Watch report titled "Miedos y miserias. Obstáculos a la seguridad humana” was launched at the FSA on July 28. Salil Shetty, director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign, Roberto Bissio, coordinator of Social Watch, Karina Batthyány, Social Sciences Head Researcher, and Iara Pietricovsky, from INESC/Social Watch Brazil, were present at the event. Quito, July 28, 2004. At the Aula Magna of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, in the framework of the Social Forum of the Americas and with a full house, was launched the Spanish edition of the 2004 Social Watch Report, titled "Miedos y miserias. Obstáculos a la seguridad humana”. Salil Shetty, director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign, Roberto Bissio, coordinator of Social Watch, Karina Batthyány, Social Sciences Head Researcher, and Iara Pietricovsky, from INESC/Social Watch Brazil, were present at the event. Salil Shetty pointed out the valuable contribution made by Social Watch in the demand for government accountability regarding social development commitments made at a global level. He also mentioned the opportunity of the issue covered, in the international context, which after September 11th has emphasized state security and the war on terrorism. He pointed out the need to recover the concept of human security. He singled out poverty, social exclusion, and inequity as the main sources of insecurity among people. Methodological innovations in the measuring of well-being were introduced through the construction of Quality of Life Index which rates 173 countries, and a Gender Equity Index. The report has four subjects: the reports of the national Social Watch coalitions, focussed on the obstacles faced by human security; progress measured through indicators in various thematic areas; Quality of Life Index and the Gender ranking.
