Kazakhstan improves gender equality

Kazakhstan has improved its rating of gender equality by 8 points, becoming 33rd in the list, as stated by Rashid Naubetov, secretary of the National Commission for Women and Family-Demographic Policy of the Kazakh President, at a conference on women’s leadership today, KAZINFORM reports.

Social Watch published the gender equality index in April 2012. The system evaluates gender equality in education, economics (income and employment) and civil rights.

Social Watch has a scale of 0-100. States with equal access to universities for males and females get 100 points. The same scale is used in all spheres.

Naubetov believes that such high rank was achieved under the policy of President Nursultan Nazarbayev and efforts in realizing the strategy for gender equality.
