UN 2023 Water Conference: Highlights from the conference in UN year for Water Action and Focus

This GPW Round Up #4, UN 2023 Water Conference: Highlights from the conference in UN year for Water Action and Focus, features a selection of perspectives from different groups of participants at the UN Water Conference held in March 2023.

This year (2023) is the midpoint of the International Decade of Action on Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028) and is also the midpoint for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The recently concluded High-Level Political Forum reviewed progress towards reaching SDG 6 - Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all and held a special session on the Water Action Agenda.

The Round Up features statements from Member States and UN agencies, as well as from the CSOs. These address the challenges faced in achieving the targets of SDG 6 on water, the measures being implemented to overcome these challenges, and the inter-linkages of access to water with other sustainable development priorities.

There is universal agreement that the SDGs are severely off-track and at the up-coming SDG Summit, 18-19 September 2023, Member States are urged to take bold measures to rectify failed promises and live up to the commitments made with their adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
