WSSD2: Opening Panel of the Civil Society Forum in Doha

Thirty years after the Social Summit, will the commitments be renewed or rewritten?

The Civil Society Forum in Doha will remind leaders and bureaucrats of their 1995 promise "to ensure that international agreements relating to trade, investment, technology, debt and official development assistance are implemented in a manner that promotes social development".

The Civil Society Forum, to take place on 5-6 November during the 2nd World Summit for Social Development (WSS2) at the Summit venue, the Qatar National Convention Centre. This invitation and the below details was shared with all Member States this weekend as well as via Indico to all ECOSOC and special-accreditation organizations registered to attend. We are also happy to share that the entire Forum will be livestreamed on UN Web TV, and that we will have interpretation in English, Spanish, and French for the opening & closing panels.

The Opening Panel, from 9-10am on 5 November, will feature special remarks by H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, and H.E. Lok Bahadur Thapa, the President of ECOSOC for the 2025-2026 year along with a Qatari Minister, the Co-facilitators of the WSS2 Political Declaration, and Mr. Roberto Bissio, Social Watch, representing civil society that was present at the 1st WSS in Copenhagen.
