The 4th General Assembly of Social Watch, "People First: Social Watch's response to the global crises" was held in Accra, Ghana, from the 26 to the 29 October 2009. The Assembly was conceived as a meeting place, in which the watchers could share information and learn from each other from the discussion of issues and the generation of consensus for decision-making. The opening of the event (.doc) counted with the participation of Dorcas Coker-Appiah, Executive Director of the Center for Gender Studies and Human Rights Documentation, Rose Mensah-Kutin, from Social Watch Ghana and NETRIGHT convenor; the Social Watch coordinator Roberto Bissio, and, finally, the Vice-President of Ghana, John Mahama. (See: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxd9uEwH04Q, and press documents .pdf). The Assembly approved the Social Watch Strategy Document and Framework of Activities 2010-2011 and elected a new Coordinating Committee (.doc) tasked with the implementation of the strategy until the 2011 Assembly to be held in the Philippines. For the purpose of generating dynamic areas of contact and information exchange among participants, spaces were created, such as “coffee tables”, and thematic and regional workshops, in which the watchers could share information and experiences. Documents from the assembly are available in English, French and Spanish (see below). Pictures are available from: www.flickr.com/photos/socialwatch/sets/72157622776832794/.
